The Escape - Blaise
My Little Nook - Jessica
I have this little place where I like to go. I call it my little nook. I can hear the birds singing merry songs, the clock tower bonging away to tell me that it is now 2:00, and a squirrel scolding me from a nearby branch. I can feel the cool pavement under me, and the sun on my back. With my hands, I can feel the grainy roughness of the pavement, and the soft, yet chunky dirt that lines it. I can see green leaves from a nearby tree waving gently above my head, and people walking by, but I don’t think that they notice me. The squirrel that was chattering at me is now zipping up to the highest limbs of the tree, seemingly eager to get away from me. My nook is so peaceful, and that is why I love it.
Four Legs are Better Than Two - Gabriella
By Gabriella Radina
As the sun drifted through the branches Sullivan Sloth woke up lazy as usual and climbed down the tree to do his morning business. Pongo the Parrot flew by happy and singing as usual stopped for a drink on a flower by Sullivan. “Beautiful day right Sullivan?” she chirped excitedly “Right Sullivan?” she said again “Oh yah beautiful day alright.” He said irritated that Pongo had disturbed my nap during my pee. “Well I’ll be off and tell Artie the Aardvark if you see him not to eat to many ants. I’m having a party a few days and with his stomach he will be as full as an overstuffed Thanksgiving turkey. Oh and thank you in advance.” Said Pongo “Okay.” Mumbled Sullivan. As he climbed back up his tree Artie ambled by slowly while looking for something to eat. ”Don’t eat to much Artie.” Sullivan said quietly glad that he could tell Pongo that he told Artie but that Artie didn’t listen. As Sullivan looked around for another feeding branch Sally the Slug s-l-o-w-l-y c-r-a-w-l-e-d by exclaiming “Their coming their coming the big men are coming.” “Sally who is coming? No one is coming besides Mitchelle the Monkey for the party. What is going on?” I finished “Big Men with big sharp looking things are cutting down trees.” Sally said still trying to catch her breath. “So what do you think?” Sally asks me. “Well? She says, “If my calculations are right it took you 21 days to get here so the Big Men are probably gone by now but thanks for the worrying.” I say knowingly no one ever listens to me but this I’ll be right I know I will, said Sally. Sally gloomily while slimly sliding off. “Hello? Sullivan?” said Mitchelle “What?” I say slowly opening my eyes “MITCHELLE!”I say more awake and forgetting I should do my business before I pee on my visitor. THUD! THUNK! BONK! “What was that?” Mitchelle asks, “I don’t know but I’ll go out and look.” I answer back thinking I’ll pee and check at the same time. As I climb down MY tree Sally s-l-o-w-l-y slides by “what’s the racket?”
Chico the cheetah said, “The Big Men are coming and cutting down trees” says Sally knowingly and giving me an I was right and you were wrong I told you so. “We have to build something for everyone to stay and make bricks to drop on these weeds,” says Chico roaming up and down out of breath.
Later that day everyone who lived in the jungle gathered and brought sticks, hay, leaves, and food of all sorts. As we worked together to make bricks the nrrrrrr of the chain saws got louder. Finally at6:00P.M. we were ready. All the animals in the jungle tried to look as normal as possible but when everyone is carrying 1-3 bricks it’s hard to look normal. Everyone went to their trees and waited and waited and waited until finally the workers approached Sullivan’s tree as the worker pulled the chain to start the saw the animals of the forest threw bricks and mud and that was the end of people cutting down trees now if we could only convince them Four Legs are Better Than Two.
My Surroundings - Ella
I am surrounded by brick on two sides and a window, in front of me with a newspaper. A pillar was behind me and sun on one side. A bird has made his home close to me. There are two birds that I know of one perched on a little ledge and one in the nest. They are beautiful birds yellow and black with a hint of red on it’s tail. Right now it’s hiding his head under his wing. People walk to and from the building I am sitting by. I hear a bird’s song and cars going by. I also hear a leaf clattering by on the sidewalk. A clock chimes two and a cigerette lays nearby among bird droppings. A little black bug skitters by and I am starting to wonder if there are babies in the nest. The air smells musty, and the wood planks above me look red and burned. Two lights hang right above me. The sun shines forming a half circle. The bird’s song above me is so beautiful. The height from the floor to the ceiling is probably 12 feet. Three steps bring people to my level and a NO SMOKING sign hangs nearby. I noticed all of these in a few minutes and it taught me what you notice if you slow down and are aware of your surroundings.

Mrs. Robert's Rock Shop - Paige
Courtney entered Mrs. Roberts Rock Shop with the usual ring of the customer bell. “Hi Elise. How are you?” Courtney said to the owner’s daughter. “Good,” Elise answered “Mother wants the place tidied up between sales,” “I did that yesterday!” Court whined. “This place gets messy too often,” First she put every rock in its place. Then she swept the floor. “Done,” she panted. The window fell. “More work” she whined. After she fixed the window, a customer came in. “Welcome to Mrs. Roberts’ Rock Shop. I’m Courtney and this is Elise,” Courtney said to the customer. “I know it’s my shop and I know my daughter’s name.” It was Mrs. Ella Roberts, the owner. “Elise, darling. Time to go,” “Mother, remember Sadie isn’t going to be here. I promised her I’d work her shift,” said Elise.
When Courtney got home it was nearly 6. She told her mom and dad it’s not fair that since she’s only 10 she can’t do anything. Her dad her a story that made her feel better. She went back to Mrs. Robert’s Rock Shop happy.
My Dream Vacation ~ Kelly
I’m going on a cruise to the Bahamas. It’s sunny and relaxing. The beach would be spectacular and the sand would tickle my feet. I would sip from a coconut and lay in a hammock. The sunset over the ocean would put me to sleep with crickets chirping all around me. Too bad this vacation is only in my head. I wish it were reality.
Oreo - Jeremy
My Oreo ~ Kelly
Vanilla smell waves over me as my hand reaches toward the core of the OREO. I pick it up, it fells quite light, but the taste is that times 12. I break it in half and scoop the middle out with my tongue. Once the cream filling is gone I squish the chocolate crust together again and try to eat the rest slowly, but it’s gone before I can blink. The chocolate sticks to my teeth, but hey that’s more for later!

On the Ground ~Kelly
Down on the ground
I feel quite sound
With greenery all around
Church bells sound
Birds fly down
And sing all around
I may be in a town
But there’s greenery around
That’s where I’ll be found
Down, down on the ground
Rocks - Judah
This rock makes me happy. It felt like skipping across water. The top was smooth like ice.
This reminds me of grass and trees on mountains. It looked powerful like kryptonite.

Escape - Kelly
When I first got to my new home on this shelf I thought life would be swell. Boy was I wrong. Being a selenit rock I look way different than all the other rocks here. The first few days the other rocks said I looked weird in a good way. Now they say I look weird in a horridly bad way. Life isn’t worth living any more. But how am I going to get out of here?
One day the light above was unscrewed, shortly after someone yelled at someone else for being a dumbwit and forgetting to buy a new light bulb. This was my chance.
That night, after all the other rocks were asleep, I hopped from shelf to shelf and was careful not to wake anyone up. I squeezed through the opening and ended up on the roof. I slid down the drainpipe. I was free! I headed out to Chihauhau, Mexico like my nametag said I was from.
Once there I stumbled across my family and snuggled into my old home, my only home.
The End
The banded sandstone
I go light, dark, light
I can grow to great heights
I’m the banded sandstone
Was crushed down below
And that’s how I got so tight
If I could talk
If I could talk
I’d say quite a lot
‘Cause I sparkle and gleam prettily
I sit here all day
But that’s not the way
It was when I was made
Where I was found
Was down in the ground
And I was put in this old museum
Demi the Tree Spirit - Jessica
The Mythical Forest was full to the brim with endless wonders. At night, little balls of light bobbed around the forest, acting as natural nightlights. During the day, the trees would bend over you if you asked for some shade. Everything worked together to make the forest a wonderful place to be.

Rocks and More Rocks - Jeremy
Hey there’s smoke billowing from that rock
It’s dark, dark gray
Wait it’s as hard as rock
I wonder what type of rock it is
Wait I think its smoky quartz
Hi call me Jaws. I have green eyes, a big green mouth. I also have very, very sharp greenish white teeth. Sadly I don’t have any feet so I have to roll around.
One day Dogtooth [a piece of calcite shaped like dog teeth] was walking down the street when he spotted a wanted sign. The reward was for 1 million dollars so he went walking around town until he saw the person who was wanted then he chased him down and asked are you wanted for stealing $100? Man police these days aren’t very bright. How would you like not to go to jail if you return it they will probably let it go this time. So they went and returned it and the wanted was forgiven.
THe Secret of the Geode ~ Elora
A deep, sparkling hole
With quartz all around
Encased in a dull-looking rock
Open it and see
Otherworldly wonders
Inside the ordinary rock
Things are not always as they seem
So look carefully
Before you assume
That the rock
Is ordinary

I am now an artist, millionaire and a former gambler. Though I still gamble a lot, but one day I had an idea I could make a sculpture out of cardboard. So I made 21 inch die [or dice] I also made a stand for it. The stand had winning hands for card games. Then I sold it to the Beach Museum Of Art. I can’t believe I made a sculpture out of cardboard!!
Hi I’m Shane Shick. I’ve been working all daylong. I’m taking a break now. It’s been tough for my family lately because my son has been kidnapped! Hey, be quiet, I think I hear my son screaming! I better follow him. As soon as got up I could see him running away from someone. I ran after him until I got to the river the local gangster Aaron Fritz was beating my son to a pulp. I jumped into a rowboat and rowed as hard as I could and I accidentally ran into Aaron's boat and it started sinking so I grabbed my son and for a moment and smacked Aaron in the face and pulled him up. Then I took the bandit to the sheriff’s office. Aaron got a prison sentence for 50 years. He also said that when he got out he would kill us.
I would like to be a doctor a dentist
Maybe a baker or an MLB team owner
I would like to be a chemist
Perhaps I could do it all and do it all
Then I’d be a millionaire

Life in the Mountains: a Girl's Story - Jessica
My father, Jarmer, is a successful hunter. He comes home every night with the delicious red Waywae meat hidden away in his Waywae-skin satchel, and the dusty-brown Waywae pelt slung over his left shoulder. I love to watch him come walking up the soft dirt path to our cozy little house every night. The way the late-afternoon sun glances off of his glossy, black, ear-length hair, the way he saunters up the path as if he has no care in the world, the way he swings the satchel back and forth, back and forth, and most of all, the way he calls out my name in his deep strong voice, ruffles my glossy black hair (even though it’s usually pulled back into two braids), and drops the soft Waywae pelt into my outstretched arms for me to use for clothes and blankets.
My father is not the only one with jobs to do each day. Every day, in the dim, early-morning sun, I haul the big chirilaxx jug down to a small stream hidden in the valley inbetween Mt. Tarlae and Mt. Utapartu, our neighboring mountain. I dip the jug into the cool mountain stream and let it fill with water for my family to use. When I lift it out of the water, I set it on the riverbank, then scoop a handful of the refreshing water up in my hands and press my face into them. Ahhh. There’s nothing as good as the chilling water of Lurmita Stream on a hot day. But I have a responsibility to do for my small family. I quickly but carefully set the jug of water on my head and trudge up the path to my home in the mountains, careful not to spill a drop. I hold my hands on either side of the jug to keep it steady.
When I walk in the door of my home, I set the jug down on a small table. It is made out of a tree called the Vallatara Tree. After pouring the water into three small cups, one for each of the members of my family, I run to greet my mother, Taela. After giving her a hug and receiving a kiss on each of my cheeks, I run to build a fire in our fire hold right outside our house and get started making breakfast, which usually consists of leftover Waywae meat mixed with the little amount of herbs we have left in our storage pots. The rest of the day I play outside with my rag doll I got 7 years ago, when we took a visit to my grandpappy and grandmammy. I also sometimes run errands for my neighbors. When the sun disappears and the sky goes dark, I hurry inside and go to my bedroom, a small room off of the main one. I huddle under my Waywae pelt that I use for a blanket and fall asleep, ready for another day in the Natakay Mountains.
Tea with the Queen ~ Paige
Diana Kessler once worked at Cinderella Cleaners. She retired and 3 years later had a daughter, Leanna. Over time she had another daughter, Jessica.
Leanna had just turn 10. She was old enough to work at Cinderella Cleaners. Jessica was 6. “It’s not fair!” she whined. Leanna didn’t care though. She was paid $20.00 each week.
“There you go,” called Leanna’s mother as Leanna got out of the car. “Just one picture. Please sweetie?” asked her mother. “Fine,” Leanna said embarrassed. After the picture and goodbye kiss from Jessica, Leanna went inside. There she met Cat’s (A friend of her mother’s) child. Her name is Sydney. “Hi,” Leanna said. “Hello,” Sydney said back.
Leanna started her shift by getting all belongings out of pockets. In one she found an invitation. “Sydney come hear what this says,” she called you, Mary Laving and one guest have been invited to have tea with the queen on June 21, 2010. That’s tomorrow at 7:00 U.S.A., time. See you then
With all regards, Jane, Queen of England. “If the Lady doesn’t pick it up we’ll go,” said Leanna.
The next day on a private jet they went to England dressed as Mary’s nieces. Finally, after getting through security they met the queen. They told her they were Mary’s nieces and that Mary was sick. All went well and they got home safely.

Thoughts - Ella
Since it’s a shape within a shape it reminds me that first you break out of being a kid,
The first shape. Then you break out of being an adult the second shape.
I thought it was neat how one artist drew on mulberry paper.
The picture of the mother with a child reminds me of a old saying you are born into
The world as a baby and you leave it as one as well. There is a picture of a lady with
glasses and she kind of reminded me of myself . I also liked the Whitey Cracker
guy because he looked so interesting and old fashioned .I liked a saying on the
wall that said “You either like it or you don’t and that’s ok.” I think that explains
almost everything. I liked all the different sculptures. There were amazing quilts I
especially liked one called crazy quilt.
A painting called Monday Morning caught my attention with its bright colors.
I liked the gold bowl.
The pointalism painting reminds me of fire, storms and grass.
I thought a green crazy paperweight was cool.
The clouds in one pastel picture looked like a photograph.
A picture of a barn covered in snow caught my attention.
I liked the statue out of cardboard.
I also like the architecture of the shimmery arch.
I like the tulips and the pictures of the lady.
I thought the skull in the hole was kind of scary.
Hope ~ Elora
Oh little white cup
On a dark brown counter
Surrounded by darkness
You are the only light
In the dark world
Where dreams fall away
And children are lost in despair
You are the hope
That shines in the darkness
Reminding the people
To sip from the white cup
In the dark room

A Little Red House ~ Elora
THERE IS
A little red house in the snow that stands all alone in the white, glistening world. If you listen you’ll hear children laughing inside at their father’s story in the little red house in the snow that stands all alone in the white, glistening world. If you sniff the air you’ll smell apple pie fresh from the oven waiting to be eaten by the children who are laughing at their father’s story in the little red house in the snow that stands all alone in the white, glistening world. If you look you’ll see the mother who is sewing who made the apple pie that’s waiting to be eaten by the children who are laughing at their father’s story in the little red house in the snow that stands all alone in the white, glistening world. And if you knock on their door, I’m sure they’ll let you in.

The mouse asked me what I wanted to eat and I said grasshoppers or crickets. The mouse said, "Go to Cleveland. They are having a cricket convention." So I went to the airport to catch a plane to Cleveland when he got off he went to find a hotel. I went up to my room and found 1 billion crickets. I ate a few and stuck the rest into a container and went back home and stored them in my freezer and I lived happily ever after, at least until next week.

*UPDATED* A Place In Time - Ella
There is a place in the world where the birds sing only quietly,
Where the sun beats down and lights up the forest floor. The moss creeps along at it’s own pace and time seems to stop. In this place where Mother Nature overpowers I can only see this scene dreamily as if in a fog. In this place the creatures do not know of another place in another time where life isn’t going so smoothly. The air smells like smoke hanging down over the city like a thick cloud. Litter coats the area and the stinch of gasoline hangs in every crevice. In this polluted place animals scatter at the thundering sounds of elevated trains, buses and subways. While they run they dream of another place the place I first mentioned and they think about why the people of the world are destroying their habitats. The people in this time are aware of what they are doing but don’t think much of it. They just go about doing their business, going to work and then coming back to their cozy homes at the closing of another day. Some good-hearted people try to help by recycling, picking up trash and whatnot, and that helps so keep up the good work on that but what would help even more is to go out and encourage other people to do it too. Now while you work on that I’ll tell you even more about the place in time that is our goal as the people of the world. In this other place ants and spiders work together in their groups to make a house stronger or feed young ones just like we as people should work together. Now I have one question which place would you rather live in? In answer to that question a little girl living in New York City said, "The better one." Now life is better. Everyone works together and we all know that every person counts as we all work together towards a common goal.

Four Legs are Better Than Two ~Gabriella
As the sun drifted through the branches Sullivan Sloth woke up lazy as usual and climbed down the tree to do his morning business. Pongo the Parrot flew by happy and singing as usual stopped for a drink on a flower by Sullivan. “Beautiful day right Sullivan?” she chirped excitedly “Right Sullivan?” she said again “Oh yah beautiful day alright.” He said irritated that Pongo had disturbed his nap during his pee. “Well I’ll be off and tell Artie the Aardvark if you see him not to eat to many ants. I’m having a partying a few days and with his stomach he will be as full as an overstuffed Thanksgiving turkey. As Sullivan looked around for another feeding branch Sally the Slug s-l-o-w-l-y c-r-a-w-l-e-d by exclaiming “Their coming their coming the big men are coming.” Sally who is coming? No one is coming besides Mitchelle the Monkey for the party. What is going on?” I finished “Big Men with big things are cutting down trees.” Sally said still trying to catch her breath. “Hello? Jullian?”

Today Chris and I were climbing a 500 ft mountain and spending the night in a tent just below the summit. We’ve been hiking for almost 3 hours when we stopped to eat are first PBJ sandwich. After our first meal we kept hiking.

It was 7 when we reached the top. We looked down over a valley and a small hill. Chris and I started to look for a place to set up camp. After 5 hours of hiking we fell asleep in our cloths after setting up the tent and rolling out the sleeping bags. We forgot all about eating our second PBJ sandwiches in Chris’s backpack

When I woke up Chris was still asleep. I looked at my watch to see it was 8:30. I woke up Chris to tell him that we needed to start packing up and heading home. We rolled up our sleeping bags and tied the strings around them. We crawled out side and found Chris’s backpack torn to shreds. We looked at each other and decided that we needed to get the heck out of there. We took down our tent in10 minutes and shoved it in its bag. We started off with no breakfast because something had eaten it.

In this other place ants and spiders work together in their groups to make a house stronger or feed young ones just like we as people should work together. Now I have one question which place would you rather live in?
The Fishing Trip - Jessica
“Can you believe it? My very first fishing trip! I can’t wait to catch a fish!” she exulted.
“Frilla, remember, you must be patient to catch a fish. It is not all fun and games, you know. If you are jiggling and wiggling as you are now, all the fish will be scared away,” Grandpa warned for about the hundredth time.
Frilla stopped jumping and walked solemnly and silently next to her grandfather, but in less than three seconds she erupted in giggles again, “Oh, we’re going to have so much fun!”
Finally they reached Lake Mariah’s dock. A brown wooden dinghy sat in the water, tied up to the dock by a thick red and blue striped rope.
“Here it is,” Grandpa announced, “The Peacemaker.” Frilla leaped into it and it rocked precariously from side to side. She quickly jumped out again, biting her nails nervously.
“Are you sure it’s safe?” she asked worriedly.
“Yes, I am sure,” Grandpa Lanen chuckled at her foolishness of jumping, not stepping, into the boat. He stopped the boat with one hand and helped Frilla into it with the other. He laid the rods and bait in the bottom of it, stepped in, picked up the oars, and cast off into the sparkling blue waters of the lake. He paddled around for a bit, looking for a quiet place to fish, while Frilla peered eagerly over the side of the boat for fish, nervousness forgotten.

Mount Everest - Paige
They were halfway up when they heard something. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” “Sophia!” Shouted Grace. She was rolling down the mountain and landed in the rocks. “We have to down,” Said Bella. “Well duh,” Said Nakiya
Nakiya called 911 at the bottom. “Goodbye Sophia,” Said Chloe. “See you later,” Answered Sophia.
3 days later the 4 girls saw Sophia. She was wrapped from head to toe in bandages. She had a cast on her right arm, her left leg and her neck. “She’ll have to stay for 4 months,” Said the doctor
In 4 months she was out. She could bend her arm so she could use crutches, but she had to eat soft foods. Now she’s fine and happy.

They’re punishing me,” thought Linda as she sat on the beach. She got angry just thinking about her parents who brought her here. Out on the glassy water, she heard Gabbie squeal with delight. How could her best friend love water so much? It was deep and cold. In the distance, Linda spotted the shiny white and orange boat with Gabbie being pulled in a tube. Gabbie’s short, frizzled hair had been blown back from the wind. A gentle hand on her shoulder disturbed Linda’s thoughts. Her brother Joeden, tall and tan, kneeled down and took her hand.
“Come on Linda. Go on the water. Just this once. It’ll be fun. I mean, look how much fun Jaden and Gabbie are having.”
As if to prove his point, the two on the tube shrieked. If she didn’t go, he would never give her a moment of peace. Linda rolled her dark blue eyes.
“Alright,” she huffed, “but just his once.”
“Just this once,” her brother agreed with a grin.
“Ok cross your legs-yeah like that. Now grip these handles, see the finger marks there, and don’t let go. Got it?” Jaden reached over and snapped her life jacket. “Ok let’s roll!”
Gabbie gave Linda a thumbs up. Joeden gave her a pat on the back. Linda felt like she might hurl.
A humongous force hit her like a tidal wave as the boat shot off. Linda screamed as she gripped the handles so hard her knuckles turned white. Not like she would have noticed since her eyes were closed. Her only thoughts were that this was crazy and how sad she was that she never tasted tomato soup before she died.
When she finally opened her eyes and found that she was NOT dead, Linda actually started to have fun. She enjoyed the way the water dipped and rolled and how the water seemed to sparkle in the light. Linda even let out a “whoohoo” once.
When they got back to the beach, Joeden and Gabbie were waiting with a towel and ice cream.
“How was it?” Gabbie asked eagerly.
“I loved it!” exclaimed Linda with a smile. “Let’s go again after lunch.”
